Hey Rural Alberta! Shift provides counselling online, from Licensed Therapists for the province of Alberta.

How does the online counselling service work?

To get started, you must call Shift Psychological, to book your online counselling service with a therapist. You will then receive a link to your email confirmation and click the link to confirm your appointment for counselling online.

Shift Psychological’s online counselling service is the result of technological advancement marrying therapeutic innovation. All therapy is provided by psychologists located in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta and registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists. We use superior-quality, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing to connect with you on your existing computer, laptop, iPad, or iPhone for counselling online. What does all this mean?! It means we take enough care to know that Skype sessions aren’t secure enough for the delicate information dredged up in therapy and that a whole-room view of your psychologist makes the experience feel more authentic than staring at a floating head. So, no matter where you are located in Alberta, with 1080p widescreen resolution, you’ll feel like our Shift psychologist is right in the room with you.

Please Download the VSee Application for your Desktop, Laptop or Mobile Device!

In order to use Shift Teletherapy, the VSee application needs to be installed on your device from the Apple store, or Google Play (you should install the VSee program, but do not create a VSee account!)

Shift Teletherapy works with Windows computers, Macs (Mac OS 10.6 “Snow Leopard” or later), iPads, and iPhones. Android phones are now supported and VSee can be downloaded from Google Play. The Newer Galaxy Android Phones or one with similar technical specifications are optimum.

In order to use Shift Teletherapy, the VSee program needs to be installed (you should install the VSee program, but do not create a VSee account!) If it is not installed, or you’re not sure, please click here.

The speed of your network is critical to effective online counselling service. The faster your network is, the fewer chances there will be a break in therapy due to technical issues and the more immersive the sessions will be from both sides.

If your network upload speeds are poor (less than 1 Mbps download or upload), you should contact your local cable company or phone company to see if a faster internet connection is available in your area.

When you’re in a video Session, you can:

  • Chat privately and securely with your therapist
  • Your therapist can share their screen, and annotate or draw on the share in multiple colors
  • Your therapist can send files by dragging and dropping them from their desktop onto your video tiles

iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad Mini
The iPad is a solid choice, as it can avoid the need to purchase and configure additional videoconferencing hardware. The iPad 3 and 4 and iPad Mini are solid choices for Teletherapy, as they both feature HD FaceTime cameras, 4G LTE support, good quality built-in microphones and speakers, and strong processors.
Original iPad
The Original iPad lacks a front-facing camera, and therefore cannot be used for Teletherapy.
iPhone 6, 7+
For a video call with reasonable quality, an iPhone 5 is the minimum we recommend. The iPhone 5s is clearly preferable to the 5c, as it sports a more powerful processor.
Android Phones
Android phones are now supported and VSee can be downloaded from Google Play. The Newer Galaxy Android Phones or one with similar technical specifications are optimum.
VSee Application
