Impacts of COVID-19on Essential Service Workers

Throughout this stressful and uncertain time, many essential services are still in operation and are providing important services to the community, including:

  • Medical care
  • Public safety
  • Ongoing supply chain operations
  • Social supports
  • Sanitation
  • Correctional facilities

Many of the individuals employed in these areas are working hard to provide these services; they are working longer hours, experiencing stress and fatigue, and putting their lives at risk. In addition to the overlaying stress placed upon society in these times, essential service workers are bearing the brunt of this pandemic on our communities.

Accessible Psychological Services and Therapy for Essential Service Workers

Shift Psychological recognizes the additional stress these individuals are taking on as they make sacrifices to take care of our communities. We are working to make our psychological services more accessible to essential service workers during this uncertain time.

Following the important protocols of social distancing and being under quarantine, Shift is continuing to provide individual therapy virtually, with our psychologists providing counseling via video conferencing. We always did this, but have adopted it more fully during this time. All Shift therapists are trained in the Shift protocol and can provide mental health support in navigating various areas around COVID-19, including:

  • Heightened stress and anxiety
  • Financial insecurity
  • Changing family dynamics
  • Loneliness and social distancing

We’ve got some psychology hacks to find the silver lining in the stress, and preserve public health, motivation and mood. Keep on keeping on- together we’ll bounce back.

Shift Psychological is Here to Help

Our heartfelt concern has, and always will be, the mental and physical health and safety of our valued clients, staff, and community. It is our hope that we can do our part and support our communities throughout the course of COVID-19. Depending on their current caseloads and scheduling, some of our psychologists will be offering individualized therapy for essential service workers at a lower cost to the client. While our rates of therapy will remain the same to allow us to continue providing services, Shift Psychological will covering a portion of therapy session costs for essential service workers during this time. We are still able to bill insurance providers for the remaining amount. If you are a front line worker and need some support, fill out the form below to find out how we can help deal with anxiety.
