Like all Shift Psychologists, Al Visram is trained in the Shift Protocol, which is the highly effective blending of two well-researched approaches: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Bi-Lateral Stimulation (BLS). He also has experience with Solution Focused Therapy and Crisis Intervention.

What are your academic credentials?

I have a BSc. In Psychology from the University of Alberta, and a Masters in Counselling.

Do you have any pets?

YES! I have an 8-year-old Pitbull named Winston. He is an only child and is spoiled beyond belief.

Al thoroughly enjoys helping individuals, couples, families, and students of all ages overcome depression, anxiety, and all of life’s various stressors.


What is your favourite food?

New York Cheesecake.

What is a skill you are working on currently?

I am currently learning how to curl. I play with a team every Tuesday night and am lucky to stay standing the whole game.

What do you do in your spare time?

I am busy volunteering within the mental health world teaching courses. I am also a car fanatic and enjoy going to car shows, watching YouTube reviews, and washing and detailing my own car. Watching old episodes of TNG is also high on the list.

What is your dream car?

I already own it… my 2007 Honda Fit. I love that car, and will never get rid of it.

What is your go-to for a good laugh?

Watching anything Will Ferrell or repeats of Fresh Prince.

Awarded as one of the top 150 leading Canadians for mental health by the Center for Addictions and Mental Health, Al is passionate about mental wellness. Working with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Al has trained over 750 individuals in Mental Health First Aid across the Country and also enjoys giving back to his community through various volunteer positions including being on the UofA Alumni Peer Asset Team.

When not immersed in creating magnificent mental fitness for clients, you can find Al enjoying the various eateries around Edmonton including The Hat and Thanh- Thanh. A true Treki at heart, Al enjoys a good episode of Star Trek and learning life lessons from Capitan Picard. A Pitbull advocate, Al also enjoys spending time with his fur baby Winston and exploring the Mill Creek Ravine.
