Like all Shift Psychologists, Medina is trained in the Shift Protocol, which is the highly effective blending of two well-researched approaches: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Bi-Lateral Stimulation (BLS). Up until July 2019, my academic credential is “BA” and then it’s all “MA” from there!

Do you have any pets?

As a HUGE dog lover, it’s so weird to say that I don’t have any pets! But, I feel like I am the fun aunt to all my friend’s dogs until I can commit to being the best dog mama I can be.

Who or what inspires you and why?

I am inspired by people living their ultimate, custom-built realities. I love to see an appetite for change and the outcomes created from a growth mindset.

She thoroughly enjoys helping individuals overcome depression, anxiety, relationship issues, as well as family of origin issues, trauma, and addictions. She also has an interest in women's issues, grief, and infertility.

THE RANDOM

What is your favourite food?

I really enjoy any sort of tapas. Big fan of making/ordering one million things and just sharing it, rather than committing to one dish. I feel very passionately about any topic related to food and I can go on forever, but I will leave it at this: Is there anything worse than “ordering regret”? When someone else orders food better than yours and then you spend the rest of the meal just so disappointed with the choices you make? I’m upset just thinking about it.

What is a skill you are working on currently?

Soft skill: patience and acceptance (reference question about my favourite food). My life motto and Instagram bio are “trust the process”, and it’s definitely a skill I would say that I am continuously refining.

What do you do in your spare time?

When I am not studying or working to be a good psychotherapist, you can find me being active in some sort of way. I am a spin instructor, which means I try to convince everyone around me to like spin as much as I do. Anytime I have any sort of free time, I am most often travelling. However during my spare time when I am in Edmonton, I am 100% of the time with my friends and family most likely eating.

What is your dream car?

A car that works. I am not fussy. However, one request is good heating because I am cold 100% of the time. Oh! And a good sound system because I like my jams.

What is your go-to for a good laugh?

My family. They are too much and we are constantly laughing at I mean with each other.

Medina believes that each individual is the amalgamation of their past, present, and future. By examining how we have come to be the way that we are and understanding what is going on in our present life, we can work together towards identifying patterns and gaining insight towards strategies that will help us work towards a future that is aligned with what we want. Medina believes that the key ingredient to a successful outcome to therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. She takes a collaborative approach when working with individuals, couples, families and students in order to help them reach their goals, and will work with you to find what fits and feels best. With her genuine and relatable style, she quickly establishes rapport and helps empower her clients, to help them gain insight, and to motivate them towards change.

Medina is a world traveller, an athlete, and a family person and feels strongly about community and connection. When she is not immersed in working to create the best life possible for her clients, you could find her working to create the best life possible for herself. Medina believes that personal growth is lifelong, and as long as we are consistently aiming towards self-growth we doing something right. Physically, when she isn’t in the office, she is probably on a spin bike teaching classes as YEG Cycle. Lastly and most importantly, she believes that a little Monday night Bachelor, some vino, and a good cry never hurt anyone.

Favourite things ever:

  • Friends and family for sure hands down
  • Traveling anywhere and everywhere, preferably which a beach included
  • Water sports minus the fish

Favourite eatery:

On a fancy night, let’s say Uccellino. On a weekend, Baijiu. To get work done during the day, DOSC.

Favorite place in YEG

Ironically, my two favourite things to do are eating and sports. Therefore, a perfect day in YEG would consistent of a workout at YEG Cycle, a quick pit stop at Zwicks for a spicy scallion pretzel, and then end the evening off watching the game (Oilers, or Raptors) at Joeys or Local. BOOM.
